In the Time of the Butterflies

This film is about three sisters; Patria, Minerva, and Maria Teresa Mirabal, who were murdered on the 25th November 1960 on the orders of the President of the Dominican Republic, Rafael Trujillo Molina (El Jefe). They were leading figures in a movement to bring democracy to the country. In memory of the Mirabal sisters, the UN designated the 25th November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women in 1999.
